Niagara College Basketball to Face Brock

Niagara College Basketball to Face Brock

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - This Friday night, September 27th, the Brock University men's and women's basketball teams will host the Niagara College Knights at the Bob Davis Gymnasium in the 4th Annual Peninsula Hoops Classic. Proceeds from the game will go to United Way.

The games are part of the fourth annual Peninsula Hoops Classic, which brings the region's two postsecondary institutions together to benefit a key community organization.

"Brock University is looking forward to the fourth annual Peninsula Hoops Classic," said Brock Director of Athletics Robert Hilson. "This is great community event with proceeds from the game going to the United Way. Having a strong community relationship with Niagara College on initiatives likes this benefits the entire Niagara Region."

"We look forward to another great night of basketball in support of the United Way," said Matthew Davies, Niagara College's Manager of Athletics and Recreation. "The opportunity to work closely with Brock University on behalf of this great cause is one we take great pride in."

The Peninsula Hoops Classic originated in 2010, and was the first game played in Niagara College's Welland Campus Athletic Centre. Since 2010, the event has raised $7,000 for United Way.

NC’s vice president of student external relations Sean Kennedy has made tonight’s fourth annual Niagara Hoops Classic a little more interesting - entering into a wager with Brock’s vice president of finance and administration that puts both pride and cash on the line.

If Brock wins both games, Kennedy will be forced to don a Brock jersey for a day at work and donate $100 to the United Way. If NC wins both games, Hutchings will do the same. If the games are split, Hutchings and Kennedy will each contribute $100 to the United Way.

Doors will open at 5:30 pm. The women's game will tip off at 6 pm, with the men's game scheduled for 8pm.

Tickets are available at the door. Prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Brock students get in for free with their student card. We also ask fans to wear red and bring a non-perishable food donation for Community Care.
