2016-17 Niagara Knights varsity athletics schedules released

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) announced the 2016-17 OCAA schedules on Friday. The men's and women's soccer programs kick off the Niagara Knights varsity season on Friday, September 9th when they play host to the George Brown Huskies. Throughout the regular season Niagara College will play host to 44 home games and two invitational events.

Key Dates

  • The Knights soccer teams kick-off their season on Friday, September 9th, welcoming the George Brown Huskies to Youngs Sportsplex. It will be the opening games of the 2016-17 Niagara Knights varsity season.
  • The Knights golf team will host the annual Niagara Knights Classic on Monday, September 26th at Hunters Pointe Golf Course in Welland in the season's final invitation. Niagara will head to National Pines Golf Club on October 3rd to 5th to defend gold at the OCAA Championship, hosted by Georgian College.
  • The 2nd Annual Blue & White Home Opener will take place on Thursday, November 3rd, as the men's and women's basketball teams welcome the Humber Hawks to the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. The last time the Humber women's team visited Niagara College, they captured the gold medal at the 2015 OCAA Women's Basketball Championship.
  • Wednesday, November 23rd will see the rival Humber Hawks volleyball programs visit Niagara. The Knights women's volleyball team will have their first opportunity at redemption over the Hawks, who they lost to in the gold medal match at the 2016 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship. Meanwhile the men will have a chance to redeem their OCAA semi-final loss against Mohawk when they welcome the Mountaineers for their home opener on November 4th
  • The Niagara curling team will welcome some of the province's top rinks to the Welland Curling Club on January 27th for the Niagara Knights Bonspiel. The invitational bonspiel will be the last tuneup prior to the 2017 OCAA Curling Championship hosted by Sault College on Sault Ste. Marie.
  • The Knights cross country team will look to improve upon their OCAA results from last year, including an 10th place finish for the Knights men's squad. The team will head to Seneca College's King Campus on October 29th for the 2016 OCAA Cross Country Championship.
