The Niagara College department of athletics and recreation is proud to introduce Phil Mosley as the new head coach of the Niagara Knights men's basketball program. Mosley is the 12th head coach is Knights men's basketball history. Most recently he spent 2017-18 as the first chair assistant under interim head coach Mike Hurley.
Mosely brings the Knights nearly 30 years coaching experience at the grassroots high school, and post-secondary levels. The lifelong Niagara resident has spent 29 years teaching and coaching, including the last nine years at Centennial High School in Welland. His teams have won numerous city, regional, and provincial championships, including a recent run of five appearances at OFSAA over the last eight seasons.
Mosley's post-secondary experience includes a two-year stint as head coach of the Niagara College women's basketball team from 2004 to 2006 and most recently as lead assistant coach of the men's program in 2017-18. Mosley competed for the Knights from 1981 to 1983, and is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University.
"It is with great pride and excitement that I accept the position of head coach men's basketball at Niagara College" said Mosley after officially accepting the position. "The Knights men's program has a strong tradition of excellence and it will be my goal to continue this tradition and build a culture of success both in the classroom and on the court. I believe in this program. And with hard work and the constant pursuit of excellence, this program will continue to grow and develop to reach its maximum potential."
Mosley accepted the offer after a talent search that saw applicants submitted from post-secondary institutions across the country. Mosley's educational experience, knowledge of the Knights intercollegiate program, and coaching philosophy were the determining factors in the hire.
"We are truly excited to have Phil assume the leadership role with our men's basketball program" said Niagara College acting Director of Athletics and Recreation Ray Sarkis. "We received numerous highly qualified applicants from across the country. At the end of the day, what separated Phil from the competition was his dedication to the educational aspect of the student-athlete experience. He is a seasoned educator and a top quality individual that is going to accomplish big things with our team."
Mosley inherits a Niagara Knights men's basketball program that in recent years has climbed into the top-tier of the OCAA elite. The Knights are a combined 38-16 over the last three seasons. The team will return the bulk of its roster in 2018-19, and features the ultra talented incoming recruiting class of Rahim Bardi and Braidon Moore.
Mosley and his wife Sylvia of 32 years happily reside in the town of Port Colborne. He has two grown daughters who have both recently relocated back to the Niagara Region.
The Niagara College men's basketball program will return to the hardwood on September 10th when training camp officially opens at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
