CCAA DAY TWO: Knights men hold lead; Weavers rallies at CCAA Championships

Day two is in the books at the 2015 CCAA Golf Championships and the Niagara Knights are holding strong in three divisions. The event is being hosted by the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades at the Chilliwack Golf Club, and the Knights will enter the third and final round leading the men's team division, with three golfers in medal contention in the men's individual bracket, and Lorelle Weavers in fourth place in the women's bracket.

The Knights maintained their three stroke lead established on the opening day during the second round. The team carded a two-under (286) to move to minus six, three strokes clear of the second place Camosun Chargers who carded a second round best 282. The Georgian College Grizzlies currently sit in third place with a two-day total of 579, nine strokes back of the Knights.

"For the second consecutive day, the men's team posted a cumulative score under par, which in team golf is a great feat" said Niagara Knights Golf Head Coach Cameron Thin. "Collectively, the team is really looking forward to playing round three and experiencing whatever the day will bring. It should be a great final round with the two top ranked teams in the country battling it out for the title."

The Knights have a trio of golfers in the top-10 including Mark Wikkerink and Josiah Dixon who currently sit tied for seventh place at three under, five strokes back of Lambton College's Stephen Brown. Recently crowned OCAA Champion Evan Littlefield continued his outstanding play carding an even-par 72, to remain at two-under (9th place). Zack Bankuti turned in his second consecutive strong round carding a 72 to remain at +2 (T-20th).

On the women's side, after struggling in her opening round, Lorelle Weavers moved up the leaderboard from ninth after day one to fourth at the end of round two. The defending CCAA Champion posted a second round 78, and now sits seven strokes behind leader Carolyn Lee of UBC-Okanagan and just two strokes behind Sonia Nagindas of Humber.

The Knights will return to action on Friday, October 16th. The final round tees off at 8:30 a.m. Pacific time on Friday at Chilliwack Golf Club.
