Weavers, Dixon named CCAA All-Canadians

Lorelle Weavers (Burlington) and Josiah Dixon (Bognor) were named CCAA All-Canadians at the CCAA National Championship Awards Banquet on Tuesday night.

Weavers earns her third consecutive All-Canadian honour, after also earning the designation in 2014 and 2015 as well. This season Weavers won her second consecutive OCAA Championship, defeating Addison Wallwin of the Georgian Grizzlies by a single stroke. In addition to her gold this season, Weavers also captured the 2015 OCAA gold medal, the 2014 OCAA silver medal, and 2015 CCAA National Championship. Her distinguished career has also seen her named the Niagara College Athlete of the Year two consecutive years.

Head Coach Cameron Thin was extremely complementary of the resolve Weavers showed in earning her third consecutive All-Canadian nod. "There was a lot of pressure on Lorelle as the known best player in the field," said Thin. "She didn't have her best game at the OCAA championship, but showed her mental toughness in fighting through this season, and ultimately taking home gold."

Josiah Dixon captures his first All-Canadian award after narrowly missing out in 2015. Dixon had a dominating five stroke victory at the 2016 OCAA Championships, finishing the tournament at six under par. He was the only golfer in the field to shoot even par or better on each of the tournament's three days, and was one of only two golfers to finish under par for the event.

"Josiah is the most talented player I have ever dealt with in my 19 years being a golf professional," said Thin. "I look forward to seeing where his game progresses moving forward."

Weavers and Dixon will look to lead the Knights at the 2016 PING CCAA National Championship beginning tomorrow at Fox Meadow Golf Course in Stratford, PEI. For the first time ever, the event will be live streamed. Courtesy of Bell TV1 and Universum media, viewers will be able to watch live coverage of holes 1, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 18, as well as highlights from around the course and interviews throughout each day of the event.
