PREVIEW: Knights set to participate in 2018 OCAA Championship

PREVIEW: Knights set to participate in 2018 OCAA Championship

The Niagara Knights men's golf team will travel to Komoka this upcoming week from October 1st to October 3rd to take part in the OCAA Championship. The event is hosted by Fanshawe College and will take place at FireRock Golf Club.

The team has participated in three tournaments so far, the first of which came at the same course as the upcoming OCAA Championship when Fanshawe College held their annual Fanshawe Invitational on September 15th. The Knights will hope for continued success at that course, as they had their best outing as a team that tournament, finishing tied for third place, just 8 strokes behind Fanshawe and Humber for the first-place finish. It was a solid effort by the entire Knights' team that day as all 5 golfers shot below 80.

Just five days later on September 20th, the Knights participated in the Georgian Invitational at Heritage Hills Golf Club in Shanty Bay. Niagara's Logan Lammerant had an exceptional showing, finishing with 73 strokes, good enough for 7th place in the men's individual standings.

The most recent tournament came on September 24th when the Knights welcomed team's from across the OCAA at the annual Niagara Knights Invitational at the Grand Niagara Golf Club. The Knights put forward some strong individual performances, including Chris Hallborg (75), Matthew Gibson (77), Spencer Gates (78) and Marshall Pemberton (79). The Knights finished the tournament in fourth place.

Niagara has had an outstanding showing at the previous three OCAA Championships. Last year, the team won the gold medal in the Division II tournament, and the previous two years they captured gold in Division I. This year, the tournament consists of 12 teams from across the OCAA.

The Knights will play in the OCAA Championships this upcoming Monday to Wednesday (October 1st to 3rd) at FireRock Golf Club (10345 Oxbow Dr, Komoka). Round 1 is set to begin on Monday beginning at 9am.
