RECAP: 7th Annual Peninsula Hoop Classic benefits United Way

The Niagara Knights men's basketball program fell 89-62 to their Niagara Region rival on Wednesday night. Regardless of the result on the court the big winner at the 7th Annual Peninsula Hoop Classic was the United Way of South Niagara. Prior to the annual rivalry game, Niagara College President Dr. Dan Patterson and Niagara Knights captain Lequan Hylton (Mississauga) were on hand to present a cheque for $2,000 to the United Way.

On the court the Niagara Knights men's basketball program fell to the Niagara Region rival Brock Badgers 89-62. New comer Van Hutchinson Jr (Nassau, Bahamas) was exceptional for the Knights, putting home 25 points including a highlight reel dunk. Lequan Hylton was the only other Knight to reach double digits in the contest, recording 12 points. Jordon McDonald, a 2015 OCAA All-Rookie, nabbed a game high 11 rebounds, including seven on the defensive glass.

Brock was led by Dani Elgadi, who dropped a game-high 26 points. Johneil Simpson was the other Badger in double digits, recording 12 points in the winning victory. The difference in the contest was the shooting ability of the Badgers, who were over 50 percent from the field for the game to the Knights 32 percent.

The Knights will now have Thanksgiving weekend off. They will return to the court next Wednesday, October 12th when the Durham Lords visit the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. Tip off is scheduled for 8pm.
