RECAP: Nationally ranked Knights extend winning streak to four

A pair of road victories over the weekend extended the Niagara Knights men's basketball program's (4-1, 2nd OCAA West) win streak to four games. The Knights defeated the Lambton Lions (0-4, 8th OCAA West) 78-68 on Friday, November 18th before eclipsing the St. Clair Saints (4-3, 2nd OCAA West) 90-82 the following afternoon.

In Sarnia the Knights led wire-to-wire against the Lambton Lions. Niagara grabbed a lead early in the first quarter that they would never relinquish. Three Knights reached double digits in the victory. Lequan Hylton (Mississauga) led the way with 19 points. Kevin Cooper (Nassau, Bahamas) and Levi Mukuna (Hamilton) contributed 15 and 13 points respectively.

Defensively Van Hutchinson Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas) had 10 rebounds, including six on the defensive glass, to go along with a game high seven steals. Hutchinson Jr also added six assists on the offensive side of the board.

Facing a quick turnaround, the Knights took on the St. Clair Saints in Windsor just 18 hours later. It was a different story than the night before, as Niagara got off to a slow start, surrending the games first 11 points. They remained behind at half, trailing by nine at the break.

The second half was a different story, as the Knights would outscore the Saints 56-38 through the final two quarters. Levi Mukuna led the way for the Knights with 23 points, along with a game high seven boards. Payam Saboni (London) and Lequan Hylton also recorded 20 points apiece, as Niagara eclipsed the 20 point plateau for the first time in the young season.

Niagara now has only two contests remaining in the first semester. They will hit the road on Friday, November 25th for a game against the Redeemer Royals (1-2, 7th OCAA West). They will return home on Wednesday, November 30th at 8pm against the Fanshawe Falcons (4-3, 2nd OCAA West) to close out the first semester.
