PREVIEW: Knights looking to take the crown against Royals

PREVIEW: Knights looking to take the crown against Royals

The number six nationally ranked Niagara Knights men's basketball program (4-1, 2nd OCAA West) hit the road for a Friday night date with the Redeemer Royals (1-2, 7th OCAA West).

After dropping their season opener to the Sheridan Bruins (5-0, 1st OCAA West), the Knights have rattled off four straight victories to slide up the national rankings. Now the Knights are seeking their first five game winning streak since the 2012-13 season.

Through the early stages of the season, Niagara has used a balanced attack to keep their opponents guessing. Seemingly each contest has seen a new Knight step up to carry the offensive load. Four Knights are averaging over 10 points per game, including Lequan Hylton (Mississauga), Levi Mukuna (Hamilton), Van Hutchinson Jr. (Nassau, Bahamas), and Jordon McDonald (Mississauga).

The Knights have also been dominant on the glass, which has allowed them to dictate the pace of the game. They lead the OCAA in rebounding, averging 51.6 per contest, bolstered by 20.6 offensive boards a game.

Redeemer enters Friday coming off the first victory of the season, a dominant 108-79 victory over the Fanshawe Falcons (4-3, 4th OCAA West). The Royals roster features the OCAA's leading scorer through three games in Rayvon Higdon. He is averaging 24 points a game, shooting 50% from the field. His 28 point performance carried the Royals over the Falcons.

Limiting the offensive output of Higdon will be the key to the Knights defence should they want to leave Redeemer with a win. Niagara will also have to try and minimize the effect of the electric crowd that always accompanies a visit to Ancaster.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8pm. If you can't make it to Ancaster the game will be streamed live at www.redeemerroyals.ca/.
