Saturday, February 3rd saw the Niagara Knights men's basketball program lose 92-61 to the OCAA West Division rival Humber Hawks (12-4, 3rd OCAA West). The loss puts the Knights at 10-6 on the regular season, good enough for 5th spot in the OCAA West division standings.
The Knights were their own worst enemy Saturday night, starting the game with 9 first quarter turnovers. This sloppy play carried on the rest of the match, as the Knights accumulated a total of 24 turnovers over four quarters.
"The game was very physical and we had a slow start due to some sloppy play that led to too many turnovers," said Knights' head coach Mike Hurley. "We also need to shoot the ball much better if we want to compete against programs like Humber."
A bright spot for the Knights Saturday was their ability to rebound, winning the battle of the boards 55-44.
Pacing the Knights offensively was their 3rd year guard Van Hutchinson Jr. The native of Nassau, Bahamas led the Knights in both points (20) and rebounds (16). First year guard Johnnie Richardson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) was also impressive for Niagara, contributing 13 points.
The Knights look to rebound from their loss against Humber when they travel to Sarnia, Ontario to square off against the Lambton Lions (11-6, 4th OCAA West).
