RECAP: Hutchinson Jr, Bromwell lead Knights to season opening victory

The Niagara Knights men's basketball program got off to an impressive start to their new season with a dominant win over the Redeemer Royals this past Friday. The Knights led early and never looked back, outscoring their opponents all game long on route to a 108-93 victory.

Livingston Bromwell (Nassau, Bahamas) was a force in his first game in a Knights uniform, scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds, shooting 10 of 12 from the field. Knights captain Van Hutchinson Jr (Nassau, Bahamas) also had an solid start to his season, scoring 19 points and adding 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. 

It was a start to finish performance for the Knights, who has an excellent night shooting across the board. Collectively the Knights shot 44.6% from the field, 33.0% from long-range and converted successfully on their free throws, shooting 76.0% from the line. The only lead that the Royals had the entire game was a 3-0 lead after they scored the game's first basket.

It was the first victory for Knights head coach Phil Mosley in his debut as the Knights' coach. "Tonight, we took a positive step in our journey to be a strong contender in the OCAA West," said Mosley. "We had good contributions from several players and took advantage of our depth and athleticism to begin the season with a win." 

Another positive note for Niagara was that their bench had a very strong game. DJ Morrison (Scarborough) and Alex Elliott (Welland) both added 12 points in their returns with the team, while Keveshan Padachey (Markham) and Rahim Bardi (St. Catharines) both scored 8 points in limited minutes off the bench. In total, the bench scored 44 of the team's 108 points.

After securing their first victory of the season, the Knights will look to add another strong performance when they take on the Conestoga Condors on the road in their next matchup.

The Knights travel to Conestoga College to take on the Condors this Wednesday, October 24th for their first road game of the season. The opening tip is set for 8pm.
