Niagara Battles to 95-88 OT Loss to Humber Hawks

November 15th, 2019... WELLAND - The Niagara College men's basketball team battled to a 95-88 over-time loss last night at home to the Humber Hawks.

Humber came into the game with just one win in five games before visiting Niagara, while the Knights were looking to improve on their 2-3 record.

In what was arguably one of the most intense games the Knights have played in this season, Niagara and Humber put on a show for a packed gym for Thursday night's United Way night at the College.

Both teams were evenly matched throughout the first half of play with plenty of end-to-end action with Niagara winning the first half 44-41.

The Knights were leading by seven heading into the final frame of play, the Hawks went on a 21-10 run with 6 minutes remaining in the fourth to force the game into overtime. Niagara opened the scoring in the opening seconds of play in the five minute over time period, but it was Humber prevailing to pull out the 95-88 win.

The Knights were led by Lequan Hylton (5th Mississauga) with 26 pts. Jordon McDonald (5th, Mississauga) followed with 14 pts and 19 rebounds. Other players well in double figures were Johnnie Richardson (3rd Niagara Falls), Kevin Cooper (4th year, Nassau, Bahamas) and Rahim Bardi (2nd year, St. Catharines) with 10 each.

This was a tough battle between two equally matched teams," said Knights head coach Phil Mosley. "It came down to last possessions and we needed some stops on defence to pull this one out in regulation time. We will use it as learning experience and continue to work and prepare for our next opponents."

The Knights, now 2-4, will spend some time on the road for their next two games; travelling to Redeemer (4-2) Nov 21st and Fanshawe (5-2) Nov 29th.
