Knights Get Back in the Win Column with 78-57 Victory over Canadore

November 25th, 2019 - The Niagara College Knights men's basketball squad got back to the winning side of things in Sunday afternoon's home match-up with the Canadore Panthers. The struggling Panthers came into yesterday's tilt winless in eight, while the Knights were coming off a two game losing streak ( 95-88 to Humber, 79-71 to Redeemer).

In a wild first three minutes, both the Panthers and Knights had trouble finding the basket, with both teams going scoreless until the seven minute mark of the first quarter, before the Knights guard Lequan Hylton (5th year Mississauga) sunk a three to get things going.

The Knights positioned themselves with a comfy 19-8 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. After ending the first half with a 20 point lead, Niagara continued to pile it on the Panthers, playing to an eventual 78-57 win.

With the win, the Knights move to 3-5 on the season with just one more game remaining before breaking for Christmas.

Niagara was led by the usual suspects, with Jordan McDonald (5th year Mississauga)  going 9-13 from the field netting 18 points, while Hylton went 6-8 in FGM-A and 3-5 from the 3-point arc for 15 points. Sterphone Augustin (3rd year, Nassau, Bahamas)  and Johnnie Richardson (3rd year, Niagara Falls) combined for another 21 points, each netting 11 and 10 respectively. Rookie Kennon Larmond (1st year, Welland)  also chipped in 12 points in his Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) game.

"Today we jumped to an early lead on the strength of solid defence and balanced scoring and never looked back," said head coach Phil Mosley. "We are still working on consistent effort and limiting our mistakes in transition. Overall, a good team victory."

Next up the Knights will travel to London for their final game before Christmas to tip-off against the first place OCAA West division Fanshawe Falcons (8-2) on Friday night.
