Knights Drop Hard Fought Battle to Bruins

October 31, 2022...WELLAND - The Niagara Knights men's basketball team dropped to 1-1 on the season with a 92-88 loss to the Sheridan Bruins Saturday night at home. 

The highly competitive match-up saw the Knights hold a 23-18 lead over Sheridan, before the Bruins suddenly clawed their way up to take the lead near the end of the second quarter at 49-43. The Bruins had the edge at the halftime buzzer, leading the Knights 51-45.

The Knights came out of the gate in the third quarter fired up and went on an 11-point run to once again take over the lead at 56-51. The end of  the 3rd quarter saw a  closely contested matchup between the Knights and Bruins with the score tied at 67-67 heading into the final frame. 

The Bruins eventually took the lead for the last time through the fourth quarter and held a slim lead all the way through to the end, eventually edging the Knights 92-88.

"This was a tough loss against a good Sheridan team tonight," said head coach Phil Mosley. "We need to find more consistency and discipline to close out games. The loss overshadowed a strong performance by Delroy Grandison and Rahim Bardi."

Grandison recorded a double-double in the contest with 29 points and 14 rebounds, while Bardi and Kennan Larmand netted 18 and 15 points respectively.
