RECAP: Knights battle Bruins to scoreless draw

The Niagara Knights men's soccer program (1-2-1, 4th OCAA Central) and visiting Sheridan Bruins (2-1-1, 3rd OCAA Central) battled to a scoreless draw on Sunday night in Welland. It was a back and forth affair, with either team unable to hit the back of the net under the lights.

In net it was Knights keeper Sam Robson (Milton) who preserved the clean sheet with five saves in the match. Equal to the task was Sheridan's Craig Boychuk who recorded a pair of saves for a clean sheet of his own. Both teams each had a number of chances throughout, including both teams taking turns rattling the ball off the woodwork in glorious opportunities. However, despite the shots on goal, the Knights kept the Bruins on their heels for much of the match.

The speed of Niagara's attacking game, including Jacob Therrien (Welland), Shaquille Gordon (Brampton), and Jordi Amores (Niagara Falls) forced the Sheridan back line to make plays all night. They were able to force a number of turnovers to give the Knights some of their best opportunities. However, no Niagara players were able to sneak one past the Sheridan keeper despite a number of quality opportunities.

Associate Head Coach Rob Lalamma believes the Knights could have found a better result in the match. "We couldn't capitalize on three clear cut scoring opportunities," said Lalamma, "However, we are playing with great confidence and the results will continue to come."

Niagara will head to Toronto on September 29th for a contest with the George Brown Huskies (4-1, 2nd OCAA Central) for an evening matchup. The Knights will return to the friendly confines of Youngs Sportsplex on October 1st for an afternoon affair with the number one nationally ranked Humber Hawks (4-0, 1st OCAA Central). Kickoff is slated for 4pm. Admission is free for all spectators.
