Knights Win on Road

Knights Win on Road

Sunday, January 11 saw the Niagara College men's volleyball (6-5, 6th West) program travel to Kitchener to take on the Conestoga Condors (1-9, 9th West).   Over the years, Niagara has had Conestoga's number, winning eight straight contests, with the last loss coming on November 30, 2010.

Sunday afternoon was no different, as the Knights extended the win streak to nine after winning in straight sets – 25-23, 25-19, 25-17.

"It was a good team effort again," said head coach Nathan Groenveld.  "It was big to pick up two points in the win as we continue our push towards the playoffs.  Conestoga has some great athletes and plays very hard defensively, but I was proud of the way we stayed focused and dictated the pace of play."

Playing in his hometown, third-year outside hitter Bret Polfuss set a new season high recording ten points.  Setter Steve Stone (St. Catharines) ran an efficient offence and recorded 34 assists, the sixth time this season he has finished a match with 30 plus assists.

Knights' leader in points per set, Nathan Snippe (St. Anns) continued his hot streak Sunday, recording 15 points to along with five digs.  After recording back to back matches with double digit point totals, Nathan was once again selected as the SAC male athlete of the week, the second time this year he has received the award.

The Knights will now play host to the Redeemer Royals (2-7, 8th West) on January 16 at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.  The match is set to start at 8:00pm.
