Knights defeat defending champion Red Deer; Advance to Bronze Medal match

Saturday, March 14 saw the Niagara College men's volleyball program defeat the 2014 CCAA Champion Red Deer Kings in four sets to advance to the CCAA Bronze Medal final. The set scores in the impressive victory were 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13.

The win sees the Knights advance to the bronze medal final where they will face a familiar opponent in the St.Clair Saints.

"You put a medal on the line, and both teams are going to play really hard, so we know it's going to be separated by a couple points here and there," said Niagara College men's volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld. "Our conference final was tight; I think it was decided by eight to 10 points, so we know it's going to be tight."

The Knights were paced by veteran middle blocker Logan Varga. The third-year sport management student finished with 12 kills, four blocks, and three service aces. Varga was named the Knights player of the match for his performance.

The win will give the Knights an opportunity to win the first ever men's volleyball CCAA medal for Niagara College. The bronze medal game will serve as a rematch from the OCAA gold medal final on March 1 that saw the Knights walk away with a hard fought four set victory.

First serve for the bronze medal match is set for Saturday, March 14 at 5:00pm eastern time. The match will be live streamed at http://sportscanada.tv/ccaa/index.php/volleyball/2015mvb.
