NEWS: Knights Head Coach Nathan Groenveld Named Head Coach of Ontario 18U Boys Program

Niagara College men's volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld (Welland, ON) has been named head coach of the 18U Team Ontario Boys' volleyball program. Groenveld has served as head coach of the Niagara Knights since the 2010-11 season.

During his tenure at Niagara College Groenveld has an overall record of 51-39. He has led his team to a pair of CCAA Championship appearances (2013 and 2015), a CCAA National Bronze medal (2015), an OCAA Provincial gold medal (2015), and an OCAA West Division title (2013).

Groenveld will lead one of two Ontario 18U Boys Provincial teams at the National Team Challenge Cup taking place July 15-19 in Edmonton, Alberta. The Team Ontario rosters will be selected via athletes invited to participate at the 2015 High Performance Camp (HPC) being hosted at Brock University in St. Catharines.

The HPC is an annual event hosted by the Ontario Volleyball Association that sees the province's top 90-100 volleyball athletes invited to attend a week-long high performance training camp. Groenveld will serve as a coach and instructor during the HPC while also serving an integral role in the evaluation and selection of 18U provincial team athletes.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to work with some of the best volleyball athletes, coaches, and administrators in Canada" said Groenveld. "Developing and preparing young volleyball athletes for competition at the post-secondary, national, and international levels is something that I am very passionate about, and it's an honour to be selected as a head coach of an Ontario provincial program."

Groenveld is no stranger to balancing multiple coaching roles, during the summer of 2014 the former Canadian National Team member and All-Canadian standout for the McMaster Marauders served as an assistant coach with Canadian Senior Men's National B Team.

Groenveld and the rest of the reigning OCAA champion Niagara College men's volleyball program will resume structured team activities during the second week of September when open tryouts begin at the Niagara College Welland campus athletic centre.
