RECAP: Men's Volleyball extend winning streak to five

The Niagara College men's volleyball program travelled to Sudbury this weekend for a pair of road matches against the Cambrian Golden Shield and Boreal Vipers. The Knights looked sharp against their northern opponents, sweeping the Cambrian side 25-18, 25-22, 25-20 on Saturday, before downing Boreal 25-11, 25-15, 25-14 on Sunday. The victories move the Knights to 7-4 on the season and into 3rd place in the hotly contested OCAA West Division.

"Two nice 3-0 wins in Sudbury this weekend" commented Niagara College men's volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld. "I am proud of how dialed in we were on our process. Everyone on our roster got court time this weekend, and everyone made meaningful contributions."

Playing in his first games of the season for the Knights, Eden High graduate Jacob Williamson finished with a team high 23 points from the middle blocker position. The six-foot-three native of St. Catharines joined the Knights in December after recovering from an ankle injury suffered in the summer.

Groenveld praised the performances of setters Garrett Suderman (Niverville, MB) and Aidan Atkinson (Ingersol) during the two matches, commenting that the pair of veterans "did a great job distributing and controlling the offense." Suderman finished with 35 assists against Cambrian while Atkinson totalled 25 against Boreal.

The wins extends the Knights current winning streak to five matches and sees the team sitting in third place in the always combative OCAA West Division. Niagara will host the St. Clair Saints (5-5) on Sunday, January 22nd.
