NEWS: Defensive stalwart Robbie Zalewski joins men's volleyball

The Niagara College men's volleyball program is pleased to announce the addition of decorated defensive standout Robbie Zalewski. Zalewski joins the Knights having competed for the London Volleyball Club and Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute.

Zalewski excels in both the indoor and beach games. His accolades include a Provincial Beach Championship in 2012, a provincial beach silver medal in 2013, an indoor national bronze in 2014, and an indoor provincial bronze in 2015.

"Robbie is phenomenal ball control player" said Niagara College men's volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld. "His ability to pass and defend will allow him to thrive as a libero at the post-secondary level. His passing will give our offensive attack a chance every single game to be extremely efficient, and his defense will give us countless opportunities to score in transition."

The five-foot-eleven defensive stalwart will enroll in business administration at Niagara College's Niagara-on-the-Lake campus beginning in September of 2017.

"The location and looks of the campus are amazing, and there is just so much going on in the Niagara area" said Zalewski when asked why he chose Niagara College. "I have heard great things from those I know that have attended the school, and to be able to play volleyball here was something I could not turn down."

"Robbie is a real gamer" added Groenveld. "He has a naturally calm and quiet demeanor that allows him to thrive in big moments. We are really excited to have him as a part of our program for the next few years."

Zalewski is the second recruit announced by the Niagara College men's' volleyball program in 2017. He joins fellow Ontario Volleyball Association alumni Jaydon Milne as the newest members of a program that sports a record of 64-27 over the last five seasons.

"I want to be the greatest asset to the team as I can be" continued Zalewski. "My goal is to be a responsible student-athlete and represent Niagara as best I can."

Zalewski and the rest of the Niagara College men's volleyball program will return to action on Tuesday September 12th when training camp officially begins at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
