RECAP: MVB drop 5-set marathon to #6 ranked Hawks

Thursday, January 18th saw the Niagara Knights men's volleyball program lose a hard fought five-set marathon to the visiting Humber Hawks.

The Knights led two sets to one in the match, but were unable secure the victory against the CCAA's No. 6 ranked Hawks, who battled back and earned the 25-14, 22-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-13 victory.

"I thought we played some really good volleyball in the second and third sets" said Knights men's volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld. "Overall I really like how we responded after the first set, and our young players showed some really progress tonight."

Second year middle blocker Jake Williamson (St. Catharines) was outstanding offensively for the Knights finishing with eight kills on just 10 attempts, while rookie standout Robbie Zalewski (Ingersoll) paced the team on defense finishing with a match high 11 digs.

The Knights will have little time to reflect on the loss as the team will travel to Hamilton on Saturday, January 20th for a crucial matchup against the Mohawk Mountaineers. First serve is set for 6:00pm.
