RECAP: Knights drop 3-0 decision to Mountaineers

Saturday, January 20th saw the Niagara Knights men's volleyball program lose 3-0 to the hometown Mohawk Mountaineers (5-6, 7th OCAA West). The loss brings the Knights to 6-6 on the season, putting them in sole possession of 5th place in the OCAA West Division. The set scores were 25-23, 25-21, 25-18.

Niagara started off strong, controlling the first half of the opening set. The program began to get sloppy, creating unforced errors that resulted in the Knights giving up the first set. Mohawk seemed to find their groove after the coming back in the first, closing out Niagara in the 2nd and 3rd sets for the 3-0 victory.

"It was a tough one to lose today," said Knights head Coach Nathan Groenveld. "We have to forget about this disappointing loss and get ready for a very tough weekend against St. Clair and Fanshawe."

The Knights were paced offensively by their second year middle blocker Jake Williamson recording a game high 13 kills. Knights' 4th year setter Ben Fillmore (Port Dover, Ont.) produced 16 assists and rookie standout Robert Zalewski (Ingersoll, Ont.) led the defense with a team high 12 digs.

The Knights will look to rebound from this loss when they travel to Windsor, Ontario Friday, January 26th to square off against the St. Clair Saints (8-5, 4th OCAA West).
