Knights Rally from Behind to take 3-2 Win Over Mohawk

November 11th, 2019...WELLAND - The Niagara College men's volleyball team competed the reverse sweep of the Mohawk Mountaineers Friday night, coming from behind to take a 3-2 win (21-25, 22,25, 25-19,25-17, 15-12) and advance to 4-1 on the season.

Things weren't looking good for the Knights in the first two sets despite coming close to the Mountaineers lead.

The Knights began their come back in the third set, winning 25-19. From there Niagara never looked back, winning three straight to overtake Mohawk for the win.

The Knights were led by 5th year Samuel Otten (Toronto) with 13 kills, followed by Colin Prelaz (1st year, London) with 13 kills. Elijah Bujiardini (3rd year, Hamilton) and Ashton Fehr (3rd year, Leamington) also recorded big numbers for the Knights to total 13 points each. Robbie Zalewski (3rd year, Ingersoll)came up big for Niagara as well, putting up 38 assists and 9 digs.

"Tonight wasn't our best game and we have to battle our own inconsistencies as well as a very tough Mohawk team," said head coach Tommy Sloan. "We struggled in serve receive and Mohawk blocked very well and it put pressure on our offense that we hadn't experienced up to this point in the season."

I was pleased with how we maintained a positive mentality throughout the match and we were able to trust our abilities late in the 3rd, 4th and 5th sets. It's great to face some adversity early in the season and to be able to come out of it on top feels pretty good."

The Knights have only one loss recorded this season that came against Humber in a thrilling 3-1 loss back on October 30th.

Next up for the Knights will be a home match-up against the visiting Sheridan Bruins (0-4) at 6:00 P.M.

This weekend's games will be the Niagara College Athletics and Recreation department's United Way campaign, where proceeds from ticket sales will go directly back to United Way.
