Knights Sweep Bruins in Three Straight to Advance to 5-1

November 18, 2019... WELLAND -  The Niagara Knight men's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (30-28, 25-17, 25-23) win over the visiting Sheridan Bruins (0-5) on Saturday night, to advance to 5-1 on the season. 

 

The Knights go off to a sluggish start in the first set to allow Sheridan to creep back into the game, but Niagara prevailed with a 30-28 win. From there, Niagara never looked back, taking the next two sets to sweep the Bruins in three sets. 

 

Elijah Bugiardini (3rd year, Hamilton) led the way for the Knights, with 12 kills, four blocks, and three service aces, followed by Samuel Otten (5th year, Toronto), who contributed 10 kills, seven digs and three blocks. Robbie Zalewski (3rd year, Ingersoll) led in the assists column with 33.

"I thought we improved our serve receive from last weeks game, but we still struggled with maintaining the level of focus and intensity needed throughout the match,"said head coach Tommy Sloan. "We had some opportunities to really take control of the match, but our decision making and communication wasn't where it needed to be."
"I think our liberos are trending in the right direction and Eli Bugiardini had a solid game for us with 12 kills and 19 total points"

 The Knights will travel to Redeemer Friday to face the Royals, who also sit at 5-1 for second place in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Conference (OCAA) West Division. Game time is set for 8:00 P.M.
