Nathan Groenveld, of Welland, Ontario has competed at every level possible. As a member of the Niagara Rapids Volleyball Club, he was named to the Ontario Volleyball Provincial team where he spent the next three years and was named the captain of the team as well as capturing two bronze medals.

From 2004 – 2009, he would represent McMaster University in CIS competition where he garnered much success including team captain, OUA First team All-Star, CIS Championship All-Star, Team MVP, OUA Player of the Year, CIS 1^st Team All Canadian and Male Athlete of the Year. The 6’ 7” Middle would take his skills to another level in 2007 when he was added to the National Team program and would spend his next three years with the National Senior team. He represented Canada at the NORCECA Continental Championships in 2009, and an exhibition series in 2008 against Australia.

In 2009-2010 Coach Groenveld spent six months competing for a professional club in Qatar before returning home and beginning his coaching career, where he is now NCCP Level 3 certified.

Along with the Niagara Knights, Coach Groenveld is also the Assistant Coach for Team Ontario and Team Canada Senior Men's Volleyball team. 

In his fifth-year as head coach, Groenveld led the Knights to the first CCAA medal in program history.  His 6-1 record during 2014-15 postseason, helped Niagara capture their first OCAA gold medal in 14 years; followed by a bronze medal at the CCAA national championships. The 2014-15 men's volleyball program became the first team sport to medal at the CCAA national championships in school history. 

Coach Groenveld's goal as a coach is: "to create an environment for student-athletes to maximize both their on court and academic potential. Creating a family atmosphere where they can grow as young men and develop as players"
