Knights Women's Basketball Team Fall Prey To Hawks

The Niagara College Knights Women's Basketball team lost 52-35 to the Humber Hawks in Etobicoke on Friday night.

Poor shooting was to blame for the loss.

The Knights women's team shot 11-for-65 (17%) from the field.

"We played awful," said head coach Ron Lemon. "The team needs to learn how to play more consistent and win two big games in a row. We're still in the hunt heading into the second half of the season."

With the loss, the Knights three-game winning streak came to an end. They closed out the first half of the regular season below .500 with a record of 4-5. The team sits in a three-way tie for 5th place in the OCAA West Region.

First-year forward Miranda Ross (St. Catharines, ON) had 12 points for the Knights. The Eden Flyers graduate was the only player to reach double-digits in scoring for Niagara.

The Knights will resume the second half of OCAA League play on January 21 and January 22, 2012 when they travel to Sault Ste. Marie to play the Sault College Cougars on Saturday and the Algoma University Thunderbirds on Sunday.

Niagara will be back at home on Wednesday, January 25 when they host the Humber College Hawks. Game time is 6pm.
