Hayley Tamo Joins Women’s Basketball Program

The Niagara College Department of Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce the addition of Hayley Tamo to the Women’s Basketball Program. Tamo most recently played for the Mississauga Monarchs club team and is a graduate of John Fraser Secondary School.

In a media event held at Niagara College’s Welland Campus Athletic Centre, Tamo commented “I’m really excited to be joining the Knights starting in September. I considered all of the options, and eventually chose Niagara due to the school’s great atmosphere and small class sizes.”

Niagara College Women’s Basketball Head Coach Mike Beccaria commented “Hayley will bring some real skill and playing experience to our roster next season. She can play both the shooting guard and small forward positions and we are looking forward to her joining the program.”

The five-foot-nine native of Mississauga, Ontario was named 2012 team MVP of the Josh Fraser Secondary School basketball program, and will be enrolled in the Fitness and Health Promotion program beginning in September.

When asked about her goals during her time at Niagara College Tamo said, “on the court I want to play hard, and contribute as much as I can. In the classroom, I plan on completing my chosen course, and using the diploma as a stepping stone to further my education.”

Coach Beccaria continued “Hayley has shown the type of commitment and work ethic both in the gym and in the classroom that were are looking for in student-athletes to grow the Niagara College Women’s Basketball Program. She is a great person, and will be a strong addition to our team.”

The Niagara College Women’s Basketball Program will tip-off the 2013-14 season on September 27th in the fourth annual Peninsula Hoops Classic against the Brock University Badgers. In the immediate future the Knights will help lead two sections of the annual Niagara Kids’ College summer camp program.
