St. Catharines Native Mary Ingribelli Joins Women's Basketball

The Niagara College Department of Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce the addition of St. Catharines native Mary Ingribelli to the Women’s Basketball Program. Ingribelli played for the Governor Simcoe Secondary School basketball program, and the Niagara Falls Red Raiders club system.

The five-foot-nine Ingribelli will add skill and athleticism to the guard positions for the Knights beginning in September.

Despite receiving U.S.-based scholarship offers for rowing, Ingribelli elected to follow in the footsteps of her brother and father and attend Niagara College. “I’ve heard such great feedback about Niagara over the years, the reputation that the school has in getting people jobs after graduation, and the close to home location all contributed to me choosing Niagara College.”

“Mary is a good athlete” commented Knights Head Coach Mike Beccaria. “She can play both the one and two positions, which is rare. She can also really shoot the three-point shot, and she has very strong court vision.”

The 18-yeard old Ingribelli will pursue a diploma in Police Foundations, and she added “I want to exceed in the classroom, and be a role model to those around me as a student-athlete.”

Coach Beccaria continued “Mary is an Ontario Scholar and she is very bright. She is an example of what all student-athletes should aspire to be.”

Heading into her rookie season with the Knights, Ingribelli is well aware of the caliber of basketball that is played in the competitive OCAA West Division. “My goal is to try my best, whether it be on the court or cheering on my teammates. I want to make the people around me better.”

With the departure of graduating fifth-year guard Alanna Arundell, Coach Beccaria feels that “Mary has the potential to play significant minutes for the team this season if she continues to work hard, train, and develop her skills.”

The Knights will tip-off the 2013-14 season on September 27th in the fourth annual Peninsula Hoops Classic against the Brock University Badgers.
