Women's Basketball Improve to 4-0

The Niagara College women's basketball program improved to 4-0 on the season after defeating the Sheridan Bruins 70-47 on Friday, November 8th at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.  The Knights never trailed in the contest and utilized their offensive perimeter game, shooting 43% from three-point range.

The win extends the Knights current winning streak to four, and gives the women's basketball program their best start to a season since 2010-11.

Leading the way offensively for Niagara was veteran shooting guard Tara Gaillonardo. The five-foot-six native of Fonthill finished the game with 23 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Gaillonardo is averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds per game in her two games for the Knights this season.

After the game Knights' head coach Mike Beccaria commented "ten players played well tonight and everyone contributed. Tonight I felt like the team played phenomenal. We moved the ball, and shot well as a unit." Beccaria continued "it's wonderful to see an entire team effort like we gave tonight."

Turning in her strongest game of the season for the Knights was third-year forward Kaitlyn McPherson. The five-foot-ten Welland native turned in a double-double finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The undefeated Knights currently sit alone in second place in the OCAA West Division.

The team will now face the undefeated Humber Hawks on Wednesday, November 13th at 6:00pm. The winner of the contest will have temporary bragging rights as first-place team in the division.
