With five weeks since their last game, the Niagara College women's basketball program showed signs of New Year's rust on Wednesday night, as the team fell to the Mohawk Mountaineers 68-55 at the David Braley Athletics & Recreation Centre.
Knights' head coach Mike Beccaria gave "real credit to Mohawk's defensive pressure. The key factor was turnovers and we had 39 of them."
The Knights failed to find their rhythm throughout the contest, while the Mountaineers rode the hot hands of Rachelle and Jen Abella who finished with 16 and 15 points each.
The Knights were paced by a pair of veteran forwards in Kaitlyn McPherson and Miranda Ross. McPherson finished with a game high 17 points, while Ross recorded 12 points and 14 assists.
The Knights will have little time to rest as they team will host the Redeemer Royals on Saturday at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. Tip-off is set for 1:30pm and for those unable to be in attendance, all Niagara College varsity games are streamed live at www.ocaatv.com.
