Tara Giallonardo Named OCAA All-Star

Tara Giallonardo Named OCAA All-Star

The Thursday, February 27th OCAA women's basketball awards banquet saw Tara Giallonardo of the Niagara College women's basketball program named an OCAA second-team all-star. Giallonardo previously competed for four seasons with the Brock Badgers, before joining the Knights in September of 2013.

The veteran shooting guard provided the Knights with outstanding all-around play this season. Niagara College women's basketball head coach Mike Becarria commented "Tara is an outstanding offensive player. She can shoot, attack the rim, and rebound, but she was also one of our best defenders this season."

Giallonardo, a native of Fonthill, finished the 2013-14 season averaging 10.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.

Impressive as her season averages were, Giallonardo's performance was limited by injuries that saw her play just 13 games. She also missed the Knights OCAA playoff game against the St. Lawrence Vikings on February 22nd.

Giallonardo elected to play her final year of athletic eligibility with the Knights while pursuing a graduate diploma in Niagara College's exercise science for health and performance program.

A graduate of Welland Notre Dame College School, Giallonardo was named OCAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week on November 12th for her performance versus the Sheridan Bruins. She finished the game with a season-high 23 points while also adding eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals.

Up next for Giallonardo and the rest of the Niagara College women's basketball program is the 45th annual Niagara College Knights athletic awards banquet being held Friday, April 2nd at the Riverstone Event Centre.
