The Niagara College Department of Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce the addition of Tara Giallonardo to the Women's Basketball Program. Giallonardo played four seasons for the Brock Badgers, where she earned an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) bronze medal, and was named a member of the OUA All-Rookie team.
Niagara College women's basketball head coach Mike Beccaria commented "Tara is an accomplished guard that can pass, score, rebound, and defend just about any position. She also has a strong three point shot in her skill set. We are looking forward to the immediate impact she will have on our program."
A graduate of Welland Notre Dame College School, Giallonardo enjoyed a strong four year playing career in the OUA with the Brock University Badgers. She will enroll in the one-year Exercise Science for Health and Performance graduate certificate program.
When asked why she chose Niagara College, the Fonthill native said "I chose to continue my studies at Niagara College because the graduate program I am entering is a new and exciting. For my career, it will get me to where I want to be in the future."
Giallonardo is the latest student-athlete to be named as part of an impressive recruiting class assembled by Coach Beccaria. She will join new Knights Hayley Tamo, Alyssa McCabe, Mary Ingribelli, and Katie Beaucock on September 9th when the Women's Basketball training camp begins.
Giallonardo added "I'm looking forward to meeting new people and graduating with a high academic standing. It's also really important to me that I strive to be the best athlete I can, and hopefully helping put the team in a position to win a national medal."
"Tara is a former student of mine at Notre Dame" continued Coach Beccaria. "She is a great person, a welcome addition to our program. In time we really see her emerging as one of our team leaders."
The Knights will open the 2013-14 season on Friday, September 27th at 6:00pm when the team visits the Brock University Badgers for the fourth annual Peninsula Hoops classic.
