Knights Down Lords

The Niagara College women's basketball program continued their strong OCAA pre-season on Thursday night, with an impressive 72-65 home victory over the visiting Durham Lords. Shooting guard Mary Ingribelli led the Knights finishing with 24 points.

Despite taking the floor with just seven players dressed for the matchup, second year head coach Mike Becarria felt his team "played well" and that securing a victory with a depleted lineup "showed character and discipline."

Leading the way for the Knights was second-year guard Mary Ingribelli (St. Catharines). The Police Foundations student finished with a team high 24 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter the help propel the Knights to the victory.

Also turning in a strong performance for the Knights was Mississauga native Hayley Tamo. Tamo recorded 15 points, while also playing lockdown defense against one of the Lords top offensive threats.

Team captain Miranda Ross (St. Catharines) finished a point short of a double-double turning in nine points and 10 rebounds, while six-foot-three center Kianna Klauck (Port Colborne) recorded eight points and eight rebounds.

Becarria continued "overall we played very well early and late in the game which is always a good sign. We are still waiting and excited to see what we can accomplish as a team with a full lineup."

The Niagara College women's basketball program will have a full week off before closing out their pre-season on October 17-18th when the team travels to Barrie to take part in the Georgian College Invitational. The Knights will tip-off their 2014-15 regular season on October 21st when the team visits the Sheridan Bruins.
