Women's Basketball Defeat Lambton

Women's Basketball Defeat Lambton

Sunday, October 26th saw the Niagara College women's basketball program move to 1-1 on the season after defeating the visiting Lambton Lions by a score of 67-57.

The Knights never trailed after the third minute of the game, and led by as many as 22 points late in the third quarter, before a late rally by the Lions brought the outcome into question.

"We played well for most of the game" said Knights head coach Mike Becarria. "An important message to the girls coming away from today is that we must play hard for a full 40 minutes."

The Knights got strong efforts from all of their starters. Second-year shooting guard Mary Ingribelli (St. Catharines) led the way offensively, finishing with 13 points and six rebounds.

Becarria continued "our point guard Alyssa McCabe continued her solid play. She gave us eight points and eight assists, and she really took over at times today."

The Knights once again utilized their team size to control the rebounding game. The Knights finished with 58 to the Lions 44. Centre Kianna Klauck (Port Colbourne) led the way with 10, while Welland's Courtney McPherson turned in seven.

The team will now have a full week off to prepare for a home court matchup versus the talented St. Clair Saints (1-0). The November 2nd game will tip off at 1:00pm at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
