Niagara Knights to Raise Funds for Remembrance Day 2014

With Remembrance Day 2014 approaching the Niagara College department of athletics & recreation is raising money and awareness in support of Veterans Affairs Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion Fonthill Branch #613.

During the Niagara College Knights men's and women's basketball games on Friday, November 7th at 6:00 and 8:00pm, all ticket sales will be donated to the Fonthill Legion.

Additionally, throughout the evening donations will be accepted, and with any donation spectators will receive a game program and poppy. The games versus the visiting Fanshawe Falcons will also feature a moment of silence and on-site poppy boxes.

This marks the second consecutive year that the Niagara College Knights are holding a Remembrance Day fundraising effort. The 2013 event saw the Niagara College department of Athletics and Recreation donate a total of $527.00.

Niagara College director of athletics & recreation Matthew Davies commented, "we are proud to support the Fonthill branch of the Royal Canadian Legion as part of an OCAA-wide effort. It is important to remember and commemorate all of the veterans who made such immeasurable sacrifices."

Tip-off for the women's game is set for 6:00pm and the men will get underway at 8:00pm. During warm ups and while on the bench, all Niagara College varsity athletes will be wearing sticker poppies. Tickets for the games are $5.00 for any non-Niagara College student, or those over the age of 17.
