Knights Fall to Mohawk

Knights Fall to Mohawk

The Niagara College women's basketball (4-4, 5th West) program went on the road to play the scorching hot Mohawk Mountaineers (7-1, 3rd West).  Mohawk was entering the contest winners of six straight, a streak the Knights were eager to end.

Trailing by seven points at half, the Knights fought hard to get back into the game.  Late in the fourth quarter, Niagara went ahead by five points but second year guard Stef Hrymak hit two quick three's for Mohawk to retake a lead.  Mohawk held on to win 68-63.

Despite the loss, head coach Mike Beccaria believes the team is really improving. "I feel like every time we step onto the court we play better," coach Beccaria said.  "I asked the players to be positive about tonight and work hard to continue trending in a positive direction. The second semester is the one that really counts and our improvement should put us in good shape."

Niagara was led offensively by second year forward Anna Jaworowicz (Midland) with a season high 11 points, while Welland native Courtney McPherson also had 11 points to go along with six rebounds.  Stef Hrymak led Mohawk with 20 points, her third straight game scoring at least twenty points.

The Knights have one regular season game left before the break and they will be on the road to face the Redeemer Royals (1-6, 9th West).  That game will be played on Thursday, December 4th.
