Playing on the road against a tough Humber team is never an easy task and Thursday, January 15 proved just that. Both Humber teams remain undefeated at home, improving to 6-0 on the season, 10-1 overall.
The Niagara College women's basketball (5-6, 6th West) program tipped off first, with Humber holding the Knights to a season low 14 first-half points. Niagara doubled that output in the third quarter and outscored Humber by seven in the fourth, but was unable to dig themselves out of the first-half deficit they created. The final score was 68-47 for Humber.
For the third straight game, second year guard Mary Ingribelli (St. Catharines) scored in double-digits, finishing the night with 15 points and six rebounds. Fourth year forward and native of Welland, Kaitlyn McPherson, finished with eleven points and eight rebounds.
The Niagara College men's basketball (3-8, 8th West) program played immediately after, looking to upset the fourth ranked team in the country. Battling hard despite only shooting 25 percent from the floor, Niagara kept the game close and trailed by only seven points at half. In the final frame, Humber pulled away, outscoring Niagara 28-10 and winning the game 79-51.
After missing five straight games with a back injury, fifth year forward Ryan Christie (Hamilton) recorded his first double-double of the season, setting season-highs with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Christie's five offensive rebounds demonstrate how much of an inside presence he has.
Up next for the Knights will be a road game against the Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday, January 24.
