PREVIEW: Regular Season Finale for Women's Basketball

With the 2014-15 OCAA playoffs around the corner, the Niagara College women's basketball (10-7, 5th West) program will be wrapping up the regular season on Friday, February 20.  The Knights will host the Sheridan Bruins (9-8, 6th West), a team directly below them in the standings.

Niagara has already secured a playoff spot but their position heading into the postseason has yet to be determined.  With a win Friday night, the Knights will lock up the fifth seed but if they lose, they will drop to sixth.  A win will also secure Niagara a second consecutive season winning 11 games.

Both programs head into this matchup coming off a loss, however Sheridan are losers of four straight.  The Bruins last loss came against the Mohawk Mountaineers (16-1, 2nd West) 74-63 on February 13.  Samantha Lovat had a team-high 18 points in the loss.

The Knights are coming off a 66-54 loss to St. Clair (11-6, 4th West) but have wins in five of their last six games.

Niagara will be looking to improve their record at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre to 6-3 this season as they seek redemption against the Bruins.  Sheridan defeated the Knights in the season opener 56-49 and will take the fifth seed with another victory.  Miranda Ross (St. Catharines) led the Knights in the loss with 14 points and seven rebounds.  First year forward Courtney McPherson (Welland) had a team-high 14 rebounds.

Admission to all Niagara College home games is free for current Niagara College students and those under the age of 18. For those unable to be in attendance, all Niagara College home games are live streamed at www.ocaatv.com.
