Courtney McPherson named OCAA Rookie of the Year

It was a big day for Niagara Knights women's basketball and its future, as first year forward Courtney McPherson (Welland) was named the OCAA Rookie of the Year, West Division Rookie of the Year, was named an OCAA Second Team All-Star and named to the All-Rookie Team.

A graduate of École Secondaire Confédération, McPherson led the Knights to their first OCAA Championship in five seasons.  As a rookie, the early childhood education major led the Knights in five statistical categories: point per game (12.9), total points (233), rebounds (187), rebounds per game (10.4), and field goal percentage (49.2).

McPherson finished the season ranked 13th in the province in points-per-game, and third in rebounds-per-game.  More impressively, her 10.4 rebounds per game were good enough for seventh best in the entire Canadian Collegiate Athletic  Association

McPherson becomes the first Niagara Knight to win the OCAA Rookie of the Year award since Kaitlyn McKenna led the Knights in scoring during the 2005-06 season, averaging 12.1 points per game.  In 2008, McKenna became Niagara College's first ever female CCAA All-Canadian.
