Knights Get Set For All-Star Weekend at Durham College

The top OCAA athletes in volleyball and basketball will be heading to Durham College this Saturday, March 28th.  The Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre at Durham College will be the central hub for OCAA volleyball and basketball all-star action.

The day will begin with the skills competitions kicking off at 9:30 am, followed by the women's volleyball and basketball games that will tip-off at 1:10 pm and 1:30 pm respectively.  The men's volleyball and basketball games will begin at 3:40 pm and 4:10 pm.

The Knights are proud to be sending twelve of their best student-athletes this weekend to represent their school and teammates during the all-star showcase.

After winning the OCAA bronze medal, the women's volleyball program will be represented by first team all-star Lucy McLay (Stratford).  McLay will compete in the passing accuracy contest and the all-star gaming.  Joining McLay in the festivities are teammates Madison Morgan (Whitby) and Nicole Schoonderwoerd (Tavistock).  Third on the team in kills-per-set, Morgan will compete in the hardest spike contest while second team all-star Nicole Schoonderwoerd partakes in the serving accuracy competition.

The men's volleyball program, fresh off a CCAA bronze medal win, will be sending team captain and former male rookie of the year winner Jeff Scott (Georgetown) to play in the all-star game.  Third-year outside hitter Ben Fillmore (Cayuga) will compete in the hardest spike and serving accuracy contests.  Bailey Cochrane (Barrie), the reigning Niagara College male rookie of the year, will play in the passing accuracy contest.

The basketball side of all-star weekend has the women's basketball program sending rookie phenom Courtney McPherson (Welland) to the all-star game.  McPherson was named the OCAA Rookie of the Year and named an OCAA Second Team All-Star.  Joining McPherson will be co-captains Miranda Ross (St. Catharines) and Alyssa McCabe (Niagara Falls).  After recording 54 three pointers in her four year career, Ross will represent Niagara in the three point contest.  Floor general and reigning female rookie of the year Alyssa McCabe will compete in the NBA skills contest.

The men's basketball program will be represented Delroy Grandison (Kingston, JA), Lequan Hylton (Mississauga), and Marako Lundy (Bahamas).  Grandison, the OCAA West Division Rookie of the Year, will play in the all-star game for Niagara.  Hylton, the first year guard who led the Knights in three point field goals made, will compete in the three point contest.  Third year forward Marako Lundy will participate in the NBA skills contest.
