ANNOUNCEMENT: Brooke-Lyn Murdoch Joins Knights Women's Basketball

The Niagara College women's basketball program is proud to announce the addition of impact guard Brooke-Lyn Murdoch. The talented Murdoch has competed for the McMaster Marauders, Niagara JUEL, and the Jean-Vanier Lynx.

Murdoch the five-foot-eight Murdoch is a native of Welland. She is a high skill level and is a versatile athlete that possesses the ability to excel at both the point guard and shooting guard positions.

"We are very pleased that for the third year in a row, an outstanding local student-athlete has chosen to study and play basketball at Niagara College" said Knights women's basketball head coach Mike Beccaria. "Brooke brings maturity and leadership to our program, and we feel she has the skill level to be one of the top guards in our league."

An outstanding academic student Murdoch lists her top goal during her time at Niagara College as "maintaining status as an honour roll student, making connections, and having experiences that I can use as a resource to further my career."

The 20 year old is currently enrolled in the Niagara College fitness and health promotion program. She noted that the fact that her academic program has a bridge agreement with Brock University kinesiology was a major factor in her decision to transfer from McMaster to Niagara.

Beccaria continued "Brooke brings athleticism and a very high skill level to an already solid returning core and talented group of incoming recruits. She has the potential to be a very high level player, and we are thrilled to welcome her to our program."

Murdoch is the third incoming student-athlete to be announced by the Niagara College women's basketball program.  Marina Painco (Oakville) and Liana Hughes (Oakville) will join Murdoch as first year Knights beginning in September of 2015.

The new Knights will join an experienced returning core that includes reigning OCAA rookie of the year Courtney McPherson, 2014-15 OCAA assists leader Alyssa McCabe, team captain Miranda Ross, fifth year veteran Kaitlyn McPherson, and third year perimeter threat Mary Ingribelli.

The Knights will open the 2015-16 season with the annual Peninsula Hoop Classic being held act Brock University. This marks the sixth year for the event, an annual exhibition showdown between the Niagara Knights and Brock Badgers men's and women's basketball programs. Tip-off is set for September 26th at 3:00pm.
