RECAP: McPherson dominant as Knights defeat Bruins 66-36

Friday, November 13th saw the Niagara College women's basketball program improve to 4-1 on the season after an impressive 66-36 road victory over the Sheridan Bruins. The win moves the Knights into third place in the highly competitive OCAA West division.

"For many of our veteran players this is their first win on the road against Sheridan" said Niagara College women's basketball head coach Mike Beccaria. "Tonight we worked very hard and defended extremely well. I'm proud of our effort."

The Knights entered the game allowing a stifling 48 points-per-game, third lowest in the province. By limiting the Bruins to 36 points, the Knights further cemented their defensive reputation.

Niagara weas led by fifth year forward Kaitlyn McPherson (Welland). The École Secondaire Confédération graduate turned in one of the best performances of her career finishing with a dominant 26 points and 10 rebounds. McPherson ranks third on the Knights all-time career scoring list with 808 career points.

"Simply put, Kaity played a super game at both ends of the floor tonight" added Beccaria. In addition to praising the veteran McPherson, Beccaria was also impressed with the play of the Knights backcourt. "Our guard play was excellent tonight. Alyssa (McCabe) and Brooke-Lyn (Murdoch) are really starting to gel as a backcourt duo."

McCabe (Niagara Falls) finished with 13 points and three assists while Murdoch (Welland) contributed five assists and three steals. Also turning in a strong performance for the Knights was team captain Miranda Ross (St. Catharines). The fifth-year forward finished with 10 points, while also adding three blocks to her OCAA leading total.

The OCAA No. 6 ranked Knights will now have a week off to prepare for the Fanshawe Falcons (2-1) who visit the Welland Campus Athletic Centre on Friday, November 20th at 6:00pm.
