ANCASTER, ON – The Niagara Knights women's basketball program (5-5, 5th OCAA West) stormed out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Redeemer Royals (4-6, 6th OCAA West) 94-51 on Friday night.

Welland native Kaitlyn McPherson scored 14 points, moving her into second place on the Niagara Knights career points list with 754, surpassing Carol St. Angelo's 748 points. She now trails only Kaitlyn McKenna who scored 940 points in her career with the Knights. On top of her 14 points, McPherson also snagged 10 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season.

Not to be outdone by her sister, Courtney McPherson (Welland) was tremendous on the glass today grabbing 14 rebounds and adding 20 points. The McPhersons were two of four Knights who reached double digits in the contest. Alyssa McCabe (Niagara Falls) and Brooke-Lyn Murdoch (Welland) also reached double digits, collecting 23 and 19 points respectively. Every other player on the Knights roster also reached the score sheet as they breached the 90 point plateau for the second time this season.

The Knights took an early lead, which continued to grow as the game progressed. Beginning the second quarter with an 8 point lead, Niagara dialed up the pressure on defense forcing a number of turnovers, allowing them to double their lead to 16 by halftime. The Knights second-half performance was stronger first-half as they scored 51 points to ensure they opened 2016 with an important win.

Niagara will hit the court next on Sunday when they travel to Jamestown, NY to take on the Jamestown Community College Jayhawks in exhibition play. The Knights will return home to continue the regular season when they host the Sheridan Bruins (2-7, 8th OCAA West) on January 16th. The game will take place at the Welland Campus Recreation Centre, with tipoff set for 1:00 pm.
