PREVIEW: Niagara hosts Sheridan with sights set on second straight victory

The Niagara Knights women's basketball program (5-5, 5th OCAA West) is seeking their second straight victory as the Sheridan Bruins (2-8, 8th OCAA West) visit the Welland Campus Athletic Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Coming off of one of their best offensive outputs of the season against Redeemer, the Knights want to see the offense keep rolling. Niagara will look to second-year forward Courtney McPherson (Welland) to continue her recent dominance. McPherson has averaged a double-double this season, scoring 16.0 points and adding 11.4 rebounds per game. This includes double-doubles in each of her last five games and seven overall this season.

Alongside McPherson's consistent output, the Knights have found success by committee. She is joined Alyssa McCabe (Niagara Falls) and Kaitlyn McPherson (Welland) who are averaging 11.8 and 11.5 points per game, respectively. In addition McCabe and teammate Brooke-Lyn Murdoch (Welland) have distributed the ball well, sitting in second and third in the OCAA in assists this season.

Last time the Knights and Bruins met, Niagara walked away with a 30-point victory, winning 66-36 on November 13th. Kaitlyn McPherson led the way with 26 points and 10 rebounds in a winning cause. Fifth-year forward Miranda Ross (Niagara Falls) had a game high 3 blocks as the Knights had one of their best defensive performances of the season. All-time the Knights are 17-18 against the Bruins, but have won each of the last two matchups.

Opening tip on Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 pm at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00, while students and those under the age of 17 are admitted free. For those unable to be in attendance, all Knights home games are live streamed through www.goknights.ca/watchlive.
