RECAP: Sister duo lead Knights to convincing win over Bruins

The Niagara Knights women's basketball program (6-5, 5th OCAA West) earned their second straight victory on Saturday afternoon with a 72-36 win over the Sheridan Bruins (2-9, 8th OCAA West). The sister duo of Courtney and Kaitlyn McPherson were lights out for the Knights in the victory.

 

In the game Courtney McPherson (Welland) posted 18 points and a blistering season-high 21 rebounds. Kaitlyn McPherson (Welland) added 18 points of her own. Second-year guard Hailey Tippett (Port Colborne) had a strong effort, chipping in 10 points and 6 rebounds. Brooke-Lyn Murdoch (Welland) contributed a season-high 11 assists in the win.

 

Niagara jumped out to an early lead and found themselves up by 4 following the first quarter. After extending the lead to 10 following the second quarter, the Knights had a dominating second half. The Knights held the Bruins to 9 points in the third quarter and a stellar two points in the fourth quarter. Cumulatively Niagara outscored the Bruins 37-11 in the final two frames to seal the victory.

 

Niagara will now travel to Hamilton on January 20th to take on the Mohawk Mountaineers (7-3, 4th OCAA West). The Knights will return to the Welland Campus Athletic Centre for a pair of contests against the Sault Cougars (1-8, 9th OCAA West) on Saturday, January 30 at 6:00 pm and Sunday, January 31 at 1:00 pm. Tickets for both can be purchased at the door for $5.00, while students and those under the age of 17 are admitted free.
