NEWS: Knights basketball launches annual holiday toy drive in support of The Hope Centre

As the holiday season approaches, the Niagara Knights women's basketball program is partnering with The Hope Centre in Welland to host the third annual Niagara College Knights Holiday Toy Drive.

The Hope Centre collects new toy donations on an annual basis. Families in need register, and once all the toys have been collected, eligible parties are invited to select toys for their young family members.

Toy donation bins will be located at the Niagara College Welland Campus Athletic Centre beginning Tuesday, November 29th. Fans are encouraged to bring toys to the remaining Niagara Knights varsity games in 2016. The Knights basketball programs welcome the Fanshawe Falcons on November 30th, while the Knights volleyball programs host the Boreal Viperes and Cambrian Golden Shield on December 3rd and 4th.

Anyone that brings a new toy donation will receive free admission, and a ballot for a chance to win a Niagara Knights prize pack.

The first two years of the Niagara Knights Toy Drive has collected over 350 new toys in support of The Hope Centre. The Hope Centre is a local, Welland-based non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the local community by attending to the basic needs of its vulnerable citizens. The organization has been operating for over 42 years.

"The first two years of this program were extremely successful," said Knights head coach Mike Beccaria. "As a part of the Niagara Region community, we understand that not everybody is afforded the same opportunities that we are provided. Hopefully we can play a small role in making the holiday season a memorable one for local children."

Toys can be dropped off at the reception desk of the Niagara College Welland Campus Athletic Centre (100 Niagara College Boulevard, Welland) from November 28th to December 4th.
