PREVIEW: Niagara seeks return to win column against Redeemer

The Niagara Knights women's basketball program (5-2, 4th OCAA West) will try to return to the win column on Friday night against the Redeemer Royals (3-2, 6th OCAA West) in Ancaster.

The Knights are trying to rebound from a 81-62 loss to the St. Clair Saints (6-1, 1st OCAA West) last weekend, snapping a three game win streak. However with five wins in their first seven games, Niagara is off to their best start since the 2013-14 season when they started 6-1. 

Courtney McPherson (Welland) has led the way for Niagara, picking up where she left off last season. The 2015-16 OCAA First-Team All-Star is averaging 15.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Through seven contents she has recorded five double-doubles.

McPherson is one of three Knights averaging double digit scoring, as Brooke-Lyn Murdoch (Welland) and rookie Xuan Nguyen-Marshall (Scarborough) are averaing 11.0 and 10.6 points per game, respectively. 

Defensively the Knights will have to deal with the presence of Jesseca Brown for the Royals. The 2015-16 OCAA West Division Scoring Champion is averaging nearly 20 points per contest. She is coming off a season high 24 points in a 61-56 loss to the Fanshawe Falcons last week (5-2, 4th OCAA West), accounting for nearly 43% of her team's scoring in the game.
