RECAP: Knights close out first half with a loss to Falcons

The Niagara Knights women's basketball program (6-3, 3rd OCAA West) dropped a close on to the Fanshawe Falcons (6-3, 3rd OCAA West) on Wednesday night. The Knights drew close late in the contest, but ultimately fell 78-75 to the Falcons.

Once again the Knights presented a balanced attack. Although it was not quite enough, four players hit double digits. Breanne VandeVen (Delhi) led the way for the Knights with a season high 16 points, on the strength of going four for five from three point range.

Mary Ingribelli (St. Catharines), Alyssa McCabe (Niagara Falls), and Xuan Nguyen-Marshall (Scarborough) were the other Knights to reach double figures with 15, 12, and 12 respectively.

The loss brings a sour close to the first semester for the Knights. Niagara sits tied in third place in the tough OCAA West division with the holiday season just around the corner. With six wins the Knights are in a good position heading into the second half of the regular season.

"Naturally we are disappointed with the result tonight," said Head Coach Mike Beccaria. "However, we are pleased with where we are at with the first semester wrapping up."

The Knights will have plenty of time to rest and recouperate before the second half of the OCAA regular season. Niagara's next regular season contest will come on January 12th when they host the Mohawk Mountaineers.
