SEASON PREVIEW: Knights set to host Mohawk in season opener

SEASON PREVIEW: Knights set to host Mohawk in season opener

The Niagara Knight's Women's basketball program will open the 2017-18 regular season on Friday, October 20th when they host the Mohawk Mountaineers at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. Last season Niagara and Mohawk split the season series, with each program winning on the road.

After a 2016-2017 season that saw the Knights finish with a 12-6 regular season record, the Knights will look to start this season strong with a win against the rival Mountaineers. Mohawk was one of three teams that finished ahead of the Knights last season in the OCAA's West Division. This game should turn into a key divisional matchup should Niagara look to advance themselves in the regular season standings this year.

This season's Niagara Knights roster is infused with seasoned veterans as well as young talent. Returning Knights' players include veteran guard's Mary Ingribelli (st.Catharines, Ont.), Jaclin Pino-Martinez St. Catharines, Ont.), and forward's Tianna Stys (St. Catharines, Ont.) and Kim Shepard (Woodstock, Ont.).

The Niagara Knights are excited to present new players Lauren Frasca (Welland, Ont.), Courtney Kilyk (Fonthill, Ont.), Hannah Baker (Fonthill, Ont.), Brooke Cesar (Brantford, Ont.), Samantha Baptie (Mississauga, Ont.), and Hope Brown (Monomills, Ont.). The Knights hope that their new players can help them contribute to another successful season.

The Knights finished off their exhibition Schedule at the Georgian College basketball tournament with a 2-1 record. The Knights claimed victories over the St. Lawrence and Georgian, but lost to Mohawk in the Finals. The Knights will get their chance to rebound from the loss with a regular season win against the very same Mountaineers.

Tip off for tonight's west divisional matchup is set for 6pm.
