RECAP: Stys double-double carries women's basketball to victory

The Niagara Knights (3-2) women's basketball program won their second straight game as the team defeated the visiting Lambton Lions 69-39 at the Welland Athletic Centre.

The Knights controlled the game from the opening tip leading 24-6 after the first, 41-15 at halftime, before turning to their bench on-route to the emphatic home court victory.

"We started well tonight, and this is a good sign for a young team such as ourselves" said Knights women's basketball head coach Mike Beccaria. "To carry the momentum over from the big win against St. Clair on Sunday is really important for us."

The Knights were led by second year forward Tianna Stys (Sty. Catharines) which turned in a monster game finishing with 16 points and 13 rebounds, both career highs. The game also marked the six-foot former Holy Cross standout's first ever OCAA double-double. Prompting Beccaria to add "it's great to see the real progress Tia has made over the last year."

Brantford's Brooke Cesar also continued her solid play, turning in 12 points and three rebounds. The first year forward out of North park Collegiate is averaging seven points and three rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 51%.

The win moves the Knights to 3-2 on the season. Up next the team will travel to Ancaster on November 15th to take on the Redeemer Royals at 6:00pm.
